HMS offers one team for boys soccer and one team for girls soccer to compete in the 210 Middle School Athletic League composed of local middle schools in the surrounding cities.

The team will be composed of 7th and 8th graders.  This will be a competitive team that will hold no more than 20-25 players.  There will be a tryout and cuts will be made based on ability.  All 7th/8th graders are encouraged to come and tryout regardless of experience.

Goals and Expectation:

The coaches’ goal for the upcoming season is to compete for a league title. In addition, to get our student athletes to prepare themselves for the next level of their playing career whether it’s the high school level or for the following travel season. With that in mind, there will be high expectations from the student athlete this year; in the classroom, in the practice field, and during our league play. The coaching staff will expect nothing, but the absolute best in all aspects from our student athletes this upcoming season.

Commitment:

Our goal is to prepare the players on these travel teams for high school level sports. Therefore, as coaches we expect 110% commitment from our athletes to our travel program.  The players demonstrate practice and game commitment in order for us to train as a team. Exceptions may apply such as other school related activities, illnesses, or doctor/dental appointments.  Other exceptions will be determined under the evaluation of the coaches’ discretion.

Commitment to the team plays a big part of what we are trying to accomplish; violations will result in practice/game suspensions, decrease in playing time, or removal from the program under the coach and Athletic Director discretion.

Players will be given a contract and the coach will hold a team meeting early in the season outlining the expectations and commitment needed to play at a competitive level in middle school sports.

Tryout Criteria:

  • Basic understanding of the game of soccer and how the positions in the field work individually and as a whole.

  • Ability to pass, dribble, trap and shoot the ball

  • Have good physical condition since games and practices require a lot of running
