HMS offers 2 levels of tennis, Varsity and Junior Varsity, to compete in an Athletic League composed of local middle schools in the surrounding cities.

Varsity:

Days/Time:  Boys Varsity - Mondays / Girls Varsity - Tuesdays.  Practices will be from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. with matches on various dates, but typically Wednesdays.  If the player cannot commit to these dates, it will be difficult to commit to the Travel Tennis Team and they may need to seek other sports to meet their desired schedule.

The team will be composed of 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  There will be a tryout and cuts will be made based on ability.

Junior Varsity:

Days/Time:  Boys - Thursdays / Girls - Fridays.  Practices will be from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. with matches on various dates but typically Wednesdays.  If the player cannot commit to these dates, it will be difficult to commit to the Travel Tennis Team and they may need to seek other sports to meet their desired schedule.

The team will be composed of 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  There will be a tryout and cuts will be made based on ability.

Goals and Expectations:

The coach’s goal is for the players to improve their tennis game under the guidance of the coach as well as bond as a team. This will involve work on specific skills, match play, and team/individual games.  Additionally, travel team tennis will get our student athletes prepared for the next level of their playing career whether it’s the high school level, individual tournaments or for the next travel season. With that in mind, there will be high expectations from the student athlete; in the classroom, on the tennis courts, and during our match play.  The coaching staff expects the absolute best in all aspects from our student athletes.

Commitment:

Our goal is to prepare the players on these travel teams for high school level sports. Therefore, as coaches, we expect 100% commitment from our athletes to our travel program.  The players demonstrate practice and game commitment in order for us to train as a team. Exceptions may apply such as other school related activities, illnesses, or doctor/dental appointments.  Other exceptions will be determined under the evaluation of the coaches’ discretion.

Commitment to the team plays a big part of what we are trying to accomplish; violations will result in practice/game suspensions, decrease in playing time, or removal from the program under the coach and Athletic Director discretion.

Players and parents will be given a contract to agree to during online sign ups regarding the expectations and commitment needed to play at a competitive level in middle school sports.
